DURHAM lost leading run-scorer Keaton Jennings for a duck when they set out to bat for 84 overs to save the game against Warwickshire at Chester-le-Street.

He pushed forward and edged Keith Barker behind, but Mark Stoneman and Scott Borthwick took Durham to 55 for one at lunch.

Resuming on 344 for seven, Warwickshire added 37 in ten overs, losing Tim Ambrose for 50, before declaring 174 ahead.

Chris Rushworth was convinced he had Barker caught behind with the day's first ball, then two balls later the all-rounder edged a four just out of gully's reach.

He continued to ride both his luck and some short stuff from Graham Onions, with several attempts at the ramp shot proving fruitless as he remained unbeaten on 43.

As the batsmen looked for quick runs in the last few overs Ambrose, on 44, top-edged Rushworth over the wicketkeeper for four then went to his 50 off 112 balls.

When Barry McCarthy replaced Onions he began with a wide then had Ambrose caught at deep square leg to finish with the best figures of three for 56.

Following his five for 32 in the first innings, Warwickshire had Jeetan Patel on for the 14th over, while Barker bowled nine overs unchanged.

Borthwick drove him through the off side for three fours on his way to 26, while Stoneman included a six, whipped over long leg off Chris Wright, in his 29.
