PAUL Collingwood battled throughout a sunny afternoon to score 23 in an attempt to keep his Durham side afloat against Warwickshire. They reached 159 for five at tea.

The captain went to the crease in the first over after lunch, when Scott Borthwick played back to a ball from Rikki Clarke which left him and took the edge on the way to Tim Ambrose.

While Collingwood grafted, runs came more freely at the other end with Jack Burnham scoring 30 and Michael Richardson 55 before both edged to Clarke at second slip.

With the ball still swinging, Chris Wright snared Burnham, who hit two glorious drives either side of the wicket in one Clarke over.

Richardson had seven fours in his 68-ball half-century, his first since making 68 at the Oval in the third match.

He departed when Clarke stuck out his left hand to give Keith Barker a third wicket.

Collingwood's only four came from a leg glance off Barker from the 67th ball he faced. He survived close lbw calls from Clarke and Oliver Hannon-Dalby.
