DURHAM'S chances of having Mark Wood available for tomorrow's Royal London Cup tie against Warwickshire at South Northumberland were boosted when he was rested by England Lions yesterday.

After impressing in the first four games of the tri-series the selectors decided he wasn't required for the final match, in which the Lions amassed 425 for one against Sri Lanka at Canterbury, Ben Duckett making 220 not out.

After Sunday's win against Pakistan, Wood said: “I’m delighted to be back playing consistently, and to get some wickets is good for my form.

“My workload has gone up, and the ECB have been trying to look after it. I’ve still got to be a bit careful this week, but I’m looking forward to playing for Durham.

“I love playing county cricket, but I’ve not played for nine months so it didn’t make much sense going back up for the T20 last Friday, with all the travelling. I have to look after my body.

“The Championship win at Southport was a great result for the club and I’m looking forward to getting back with the lads.”

Kent wicketkeeper Sam Billings, who made 175 in Sunday's win, said: “If you look at how Mark Wood has bowled in this series you can see why he’s centrally contracted, and why he’s an international class bowler. He’s been unbelievable and really set the tone, just from a professional point of view.”

Phil Mustard has joined Glamorgan on loan for the rest of the season, bringing an end to his 16 years as part of the Durham squad.

Made available to pursue other opportunities with his contract not being renewed this summer, Mustard has headed to South Wales and will play in tomorrow’s floodlit game at the Oval against Surrey.

Glamorgan head coach Richard Dawson said: “’It’s great that Phil has joined us for the rest of the season. He brings with him vast experience and match winning abilities which I’m sure he will show whilst at Gloucestershire.”

Limited-overs games against Warwickshire, Derbyshire and Yorkshire were likely to be his final Riverside outings – and the Derbyshire game on Friday sees proceeds to go his benefit fund.
