DURHAM will resist the temptation to move man-of-the-moment Keaton Jennings up to the No 3 slot, opting instead for Gordon Muchall, in this evening's NatWest T20 Blast match at home to Yorkshire.

Muchall comes in for his first senior appearance of the season in the absence of Paul Collingwood with a fractured thumb.

Coach Jon Lewis has tipped Jennings to become a top-order one-day batsman, but in Collingwood's absence they will need him as much for his medium pace wobblers as his batting tonight.

Following his unbeaten 221 yesterday Jennings said: “I'm very proud and happy to have come out of the game with a personal milestone and with a draw considering the position we were in after day two.

“We did well to get out of a hole and we could have gone on to win with a bit more luck. It shows the character of the side in trying to win from a dead position.”

Jennings is the first batsman in the country to pass 700 championship runs this season, but he added: “It would be naïve of me to think I am anywhere near playing for England. That's what I want to do and I qualified in March, but there's a long way to go.

“I am no stranger to things going wrong at the back end of a season, so I'm trying to take rest days instead of going for long runs on days off in the hope I can maintain my performance.”

Yorkshire were surprised that Collingwood delayed his declaration so long yesterday and skipper Andrew Gale said: “We didn't really talk about going for the runs.

“We knew if we could get to tea in a good position, like we did at Trent Bridge, we might have a go. But this was a different pitch with the ball going up and down and it was turning quite a bit towards the end.

“In the end we will take a draw. We didn't throw away our good position after day two – they fought back really hard and Jennings played an outstanding innings, showing a lot of grit and determination.”

Tonight's match may be a bottom-of-the-table clash but Durham are desperate for a big crowd to boost their finances.

Both teams are still seeking the key to this format, which is more surprising in Yorkshire's case, given their depth of talent.

They recorded their first win from six against Derbyshire on Sunday and will be hoping for another good start from Adam Lyth following his recent one-day centuries.

Tim Bresnan said: “A few of the lads didn't realise he had a 60-ball ton in his locker, but he did it twice in three days. He was absolutely outstanding.”

With their five England men absent, Yorkshire will again include newly re-signed off-spinner Azeem Rafiq and have added Josh Shaw and Ryan Gibson to the squad.

Paul Coughlin is fit for Durham, despite bowling only five overs in this week's Second X1 Championship game against Lancashire at Brandon as Durham continue to protect him following his back injuries.
