JASON GILLESPIE is unwavering in his belief that Yorkshire will get things right in limited overs cricket.

The White Rose coach has obviously been frustrated with their start to life in both this summer’s NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London one-day Cup.

They have lost three out of four in the Blast, with their fourth washed out, while they have lost one from two in the RL50.

Yesterday’s 50-over clash against Derbyshire at Chesterfield was abandoned because of rain after just one over from Tim Bresnan - a maiden.

Gillespie, however, has hailed his players’ attitude in adversity, and knows there is still time to turn things around.

“You can talk about our T20 form, but Lancashire lost six last season and won it,” he said.

“It’s not all doom and gloom. We’re very positive.

“The lads are in a fantastic place. Yes, we’ve lost a few games, but we’re talking well in the dressing room and communicating well on the track. The lads are very clear with what they’re trying to do.

“They haven’t quite got it right, but there’s a lot of optimism about our shorter form cricket.

“I know that people in the media and the public are worried that things aren’t going according to plan, but we’re very tight, feeling strong, and we’re focusing on the things that are allowing us to do well.

“The lads know what they’re trying to achieve, they’re researching their games and the opposition - the analysis is good.

“They are giving themselves the best chance. We are trusting them to go out and get the job done. And they will.”

Yorkshire have back-to-back RL50 matches against Northamptonshire at Scarborough tomorrow and Lancashire at Emirates Old Trafford on Wednesday.

Adil Rashid will be fit after missing out yesterday with a stiff neck.

“The public don’t see what we see,” continued Gillespie, whose side lost their opener against Worcestershire last Tuesday.

“They don’t see the lads putting the work in at training or listen in on the debriefs. It comes down to the fact that you’ve just got to have that belief and trust.

“I am really excited about our short form cricket because I see that we’ve got a really good squad, and we feel that we’re going to have an impact this summer.

“The lads are hurting, but we had a brilliant chat after Worcester.

“It was pretty hard to be critical of the bowlers in that game because the batsmen didn’t do their job.

“It was one of the better post match chats I’ve seen at Yorkshire. It was open, honest, constructive. That’s how these lads are going to improve and be better next time.

“While I was disappointed to lose, I was really proud of the lads how they spoke in the dressing room.”

Gillespie, meanwhile, says it is unlikely the club will dip into the loan market to cover a potential availability crisis for next Monday’s Championship match at Durham.

Yorkshire will be without injured bowlers Ryan Sidebottom, Jack Brooks and Matt Fisher, while Rashid, Liam Plunkett and David Willey could all be selected in England’s one-day squad for the forthcoming series against Sri Lanka.

Recalling Josh Shaw from his loan at Gloucestershire is also unlikely but possible.

Will Rhodes, James Wainman, Ben Coad and Jared Warner will all be considered for a place.
