DURHAM coach Jon Lewis is hoping the rain will relent sufficiently for his bowlers to get in at least 60 overs on the final day against Somerset following yesterday's washout.

On 223 for four in their second innings, Durham lead by 300 runs, and Lewis said: “If we can get two good sessions we will have a chance of knocking them over.

“It's not a bad pitch and we would have liked a few more than 256 in the first innings, especially with one man making a hundred.

“For Keaton Jennings to score two centuries in the game is tremendous. Opening the batting anywhere is tough, but to do it in the North-East in April against the Dukes ball is tougher still.

“Keaton is one of the hardest-working members of the squad and if he keeps his mindset positive he will continue to kick on.”

It was also a frustrating day for ECB bowling coach Kevin Shine, who travelled to Durham chiefly to monitor the progress of Mark Wood, who had bowled in the middle during Monday's lunch hour.

He planned to do the same yesterday as he builds gradually to his expected return to action in three-day second team match against Scotland at Riverside, starting on Tuesday.

If all goes well he will then be available for Durham's home match against Middlesex, starting on Sunday week.

*Durham have extended their contract with Gray-Nicolls, who will continue to supply kit and clothing to the club for the next four seasons.

Chief executive David Harker said: “Gray-Nicolls is one of the stellar names in cricket and we have been delighted with the quality of their product in the past few seasons.”

Gray-Nicolls are offering North-East clubs the chance to earn rewards for being kitted out in their clothing. Details are available on LukeG@grays-int.co.uk *Newcastle International Airport is to be the official sponsor of the Emirates Riverside's North East Terrace, which was opened in time for the Ashes Test three years ago.

A three-year deal will see the airport's logo displayed across the stand along with the name of the airport's new campaign, Discover the World.
