THE region’s busiest airport is to sponsor a stand at one of the North-East’s biggest sports grounds.

Newcastle International Airport is to become sponsor of part of Durham County Cricket Clubs stadium in Chester-le-Street.

A three-year deal will see The North East Terrace, with its famous backdrop of Lumley castle, renamed The Newcastle International Airport Stand at Emirates Riverside.

The airport’s logo will be displayed across the stand alongside its Discover The World campaign.

John Irving, business development director at Newcastle International Airport, said: “The North East Terrace has become somewhat of an iconic sight on both TV and online through the years with the Emirates Riverside providing such a picturesque image during first-class Cricket matches.

“This latest deal offers the perfect platform for us to highlight our new brand, ‘Discover the World’, which showcases all of the great destinations available from Newcastle International, whilst showing our continued support for the county after the success of sponsoring Durham’s t20 shirt for the past three seasons.”
