YORKSHIRE coach Jason Gillespie has urged his players to rid themselves of their inconsistencies in limited overs cricket after finding out their opening fixtures for 2016.

The ECB have revealed each county’s first fixture in all three competitions for next year, with the White Rose county opening the defence of their LV= County Championship title at home to Hampshire at Headingley on Sunday April 17.

The full fixture list will be revealed at 9am today.

Yorkshire’s opening match of 2016 is the four-day champion county fixture against the MCC in Abu Dhabi on Sunday March 20, a crucial part of their bid to make it three titles in a row.

But Australian Gillespie is desperate to see Yorkshire make add some limited overs silverware next year.

The Vikings begin their assault on a maiden NatWest T20 Blast title at home to Leicestershire under lights on Friday 27 May.

And they begin their Royal London one-day Cup campaign against Worcestershire, also at Headingley, on Tuesday June 7.

“In 50-over cricket we made some good strides this year,” he said. “I thought we did a lot better than we did the previous year. But T20 cricket is something we haven’t quite cracked.

“There’s an inconsistency factor there. We’re either very good or very ordinary. I’d like us to improve that. I certainly think we’re a better squad and team than what we’ve shown.

“First year I got here we made Finals Day and got to the final. Since then we’ve been pretty ordinary. We need to improve that.”
