THE second team were unable to provide any consolation yesterday for Durham following the loss of their Royal London Cup crown.

Derbyshire's 247 for eight proved good enough to win the Second X1 Trophy final by ten runs at the Emirates ICG as Durham were all out off the last ball of their 50 overs.

Phil Mustard's struggles continued as he laboured for 62 balls to score 31 before he fell lbw to 19-year-old leg-spinner Matt Critchley.

His opening partner Keaton Jenning had been much more fluent in making 26 off 27 balls, then Graham Clark (23), Calum MacLeod (41) and Stuart Poynter all maintained the required tempo.

But none proved capable of going on to play a match-winning innings and it seemed Stokesley's James Weighell might oblige. Batting at No 7, he cut loose when 55 were needed off five overs, but after thrashing 37 off 23 balls he was out in the 47th over with 25 needed.

Derbyshire included several first team regulars with Wes Durston scoring 41 and taking two for 37 in ten overs, while Chesney Hughes top-scored with 69.

Durham's two left-arm spinners, Gurman Randhawa and 18-year-old Geroge Harding, from Crewe, bowled well with Harding returning the best figures of two for 27.
