FOR the second successive Sunday Liam Plunkett haunted his former Durham team-mates as Yorkshire closed in on victory at Scarborough.

After removing three of the top four in last week's Royal London Cup tie at Chester-le-Street, he repeated the feat to wreck Durham's chances of chasing a target of 447.

They reached 107 for one before he took two wickets in four balls either side of lunch, and despite plucky efforts from new boys Graham Clark and Jack Burnham, Durham were 220 for seven at tea.

Burnham was still there on 41 and looked particularly assured against Adil Rashid, bowling a class of spin the Esh Winning teenager is unlikely to have faced before.

When Rasid overpitched Burnham drove him confidently down the ground and also showed good placement in dispatching a full toss between mid-on and mid-wicket.

He shared a fifth-wicket stand of 53 with Michael Richardson, who looked unlucky to be adjudged lbw for 48 to a ball from Tim Bresnan which cut back enough to be missing leg stump.

Bowling with pace and accuracy, Plunkett found steep bounce to account for Scott Borthwick for 31 and Gordon Muchall for 15.

Borthwick edged to the left of third slip, where Glenn Maxwell dived to hold a sensational one-handed catch.

Muchall never looked secure, surviving what looked like a slip catch after the umpires consulted before gloving a bouncer to the wicketkeeper.

Jamie Harrison was run out for a duck when he drove Rashid to cover and set off, only to change his mind fail to get back in time to beat Andrew Gale's throw.
