DURHAM had to go into their match against Yorkshire at Scarborough without Paul Collingwood and suffered what seemed a further setback when his deputy, Mark Stoneman, lost the toss on a glorious morning.

But they had Yorkshire rocking on 94 for seven at lunch through a mixture of good bowling and poor batting.

Glenn Maxwell looked capable of reviving Yorkshire from 54 for five, playing some fine strokes in reaching 36.

But just before lunch he tried to swot a short, leg-side ball from Graham Onions to long leg and edged to Michael Richardson.

Onions had time for one more over and Adil Rashid gave him his third wicket when he drove at the first ball and edged to debut boy Jack Burnham at third slip.

There were two catches for Gordon Muchall, taking Collingwood's place at first slip, and one for Scott Borthwick at second.

That was a big relief for him as he dropped Andrew Gale on one off Jamie Harrison, who took the new ball in preference to Onions and struck the first blow when he had Andrew Hodd lbw.

Chris Rushworth bowled Alex Lees off an inside edge and found Gale's edge for Borthwick to cling on and send back the Yorkshire captain for 12.

Jack Leaning played back and edged a ball from John Hastings he could have left, while something similar from Onions accounted for Gary Ballance, although he was less culpable.
