DURHAM took advantage of Leicestershire's decision to rest their best bowlers and amassed their second highest one-day score today.

Skipper Mark Stoneman led the way with 98 in a total of 349 for seven at Grace Road, four short of the record set in last year's semi-final at home to Nottinghamshire.

With Clint McKay and Ben Raine left out, the Foxes handed a debut to triallist Liam Hurt and included another inexperienced seamer in Ollie Freckingham.

He bowled Phil Mustard for 12 with the score on 54 in the eighth over but finished with figures of 9-0-92-1.

Stoneman and Scott Borthwick put on 146 for the second wicket before the captain steered a catch to point after facing 104 balls and hitting 12 fours.

Borthwick was unluckily run out for 87 by a deflection at the non-striker's end before Graham Clark, Ryan Pringle, John Hastings and Calum MacLeod all chipped in with rapid runs.

The innings reached a crescendo in the 44th and 45th overs, in which Freckingham conceded 22 and Hurt 19.

But after hitting the first four balls of Hurt's over for three fours and a six Hastings chased a slow, wide one and was caught at backward point for 27, made off 11 balls.
