AFTER three wickets fell in the previous three sessions, six went down this afternoon with Hampshire reaching 80 for three at tea in reply to 421.

The spinners polished off Durham with 18-year-old leggie Mason Crane celebrating his maiden first-scalp by bowling John Hastings through an attempted slog over mid-wicket.

Liam Dawson took the last two, having Gordon Muchall caught by Will Smith at short leg off bat and pad for 145 before Graham Onions lofted a catch to mid-on.

Jimmy Adams, who has handed over the Hampshire captaincy to James Vince, was lbw for five when half forward to a ball from Chris Rushworth which straightened off the pitch.

Dawson gifted Hastings a wicket when he slapped a catch to mid-off then Vince played like the one-day batsman he is.

Durham had Ryan Pringle on straight after a short break for heavy drizzle and he tended to drop short, allowing Vince to keep working him through mid-wicket.

But when he pitched one up Vince, on 19, edged a drive and Paul Collingwood held the sharp chance at slip.

Michael Carberry took until the fifth over to get off the mark but then hit three successive balls from Onions for four, albeit the second one off the edge.

The left-handed opener was on 41 at tea with Smith on six.
