CHRIS Rushworth took three wickets in seven balls to have Warwickshire rocking on 12 for three during the brief passage of play which was possible at Chester-le-Street this morning.

A four glanced too fine for comfort by Sam Hain prevented a hat-trick and a thick edge by Ian Westwood off Graham Onions took the Bears to 20 without further loss.

When play began at noon Varun Chopra shouldered arms to the second ball, which nipped back to have him lbw.

As with his opposite number, Paul Collingwood, the visiting captain didn't appear to like David Millns' decision, but there could be no argument when the first ball of Rushworth's second over pinned Jonathan Webb in front on the back foot.

The next ball brushed Laurie Evans' pad and Millns had no hesitation in raising the finger.

Westwood was on eight and Hain four when light rain intervened after 4.2 overs.
