YORKSHIRE continued to dominate the clash between the LV County Championship's top two as Jonny Bairstow and Tim Bresnan extended their unbroken stand to 256.

Although they fell short of the fifth batting point, they added 118 in the morning session to take the total to 447 for six, with Bairstow on 152 and Bresnan 129.

Bresnan passed his previous best score of 125, made for England Lions against India at Chelmsford in 2007, in the last over before lunch with two to deep mid-wicket off the occasional off-spin of Mark Stoneman.

Resuming on 102, Bairstow enjoyed two early slices of fortune in one John Hastings over. A chip just cleared mid-on then a sliced drive brushed Ryan Pringle's fingers at gully on its way to the rope.

Bresnan, on 66 overnight, eased to 87 before he also enjoyed some luck. A nick on to his pad off Hastings saved him from being lbw and on 90 he was beaten by Graham Onions then edged him for four just wide of second slip.

After failing to connect with two drives, Bresnan cut Jamie Harrison for his 16th four to complete his second championship hundred of the season off 149 balls.

On 110 Bresnan offered no stroke to a ball from off-spinner Ryan Pringle which turned and hit him on the back leg. The bowler looked aghast when umpire Paul Baldwin turned down the appeal.
