DURHAM will have to find a way to counter their biggest nemesis in recent years, Keith Barker, tomorrow when they begin their attempt to avenge two innings defeats by Warwickshire last season.

After winning three of their first four LV County Championship games the trip to Edgbaston is also likely to bring them up against Jonathan Trott following his retirement from Test cricket.

Barker's liking for Durham began in 2011, when he scored his maiden century in the Edgbaston meeting. But it is his left-arm swing bowling which has bedevilled them since.

He had match figures of ten for 70 in 2012, then last year he took six or 46 in the first innings at Riverside and had match figures of eight for 100 at Edgbaston.

If Barker doesn't strike he has plenty of support in the shape of Chris Woakes, Ricky Clarke, Chris Wright and Boyd Rankin, not to mention the best spinner in the championship, Jeetan Patel.

Following Mark Wood's inclusion in the England squad for the first Test against New Zealand, Durham will recall Usman Arshad and Paul Coughlin to the squad and will choose between them unless they decide to include a second spinner in Ryan Pringle.

He played in the final match of the season at Edgbaston last year, top-scoring with scoring 63 not out and 38. But he bowled only three overs as Durham lost by an innings and 13 runs.
