JAMIE HARRISON will not feature in Durham's first Twenty20 squad of the season, despite taking six for 17 in the second team's innings win against Leicestershire at Brandon yesterday.

Left-arm bowlers were very prominent at the World Cup, with champions Australia including three, but Durham's one-day captain, Mark Stoneman, said: “They were tall, 90mph men and Jamie isn't that.

“He does have a lot of qualities and we'll certainly be looking to use him in one-day cricket later in the season. At the moment he's still in his rehabilitation stage after his ankle operation and we want him to gain full confidence in his body.”

Durham start their NatWest T20 Blast at home to Northamptonshire tomorrow (5.30) and will draft Gordon Muchall and Ryan Pringle into the squad from the second team.

The performances of academy boys Adam Hickey and Josh Bousfield have also been noted. Bousfield (68) and Harrison (49) put on 103 for the ninth wicket to rescue the team from 148 for eight and with Paul Coughin chipping in with 54 they reached 296.

Leicestershire were routed for 66 then Bousfield, from Barnard Castle, took four early wickets in their second innings.

“It's important to give recognition to players doing well in the second team,” said Stoneman. “But we have a pretty clear idea of the 12 we want for the first match and we plan to have a bit more structure in the T20 team, rather than changing things around.”
