Jason Gillespie is on the verge of combining a coaching job share with Yorkshire and Big Bash Twenty20 team Adelaide Strikers.

The White Rose county’s first-team coach will almost certainly be confirmed as the Strikers new coach before the end of the ongoing champion county fixture in Abu Dhabi.

Gillespie played for South Australia and still has a house in Adelaide.

The South Australian Cricket Association yesterday announced that they were parting company with Darren Berry, who has combined coaching the Strikers with state team South Australia.

Now that the roles will be split, it has paved the way for 39-year-old Gillespie to coach Yorkshire in an English summer and the Strikers in an Australian summer.

SACA chief executive Keith Bradshaw said: "At the moment, Jason is committed to Yorkshire for their summer. We are in discussions with Jason on the Strikers side. Should we conclude that negotiation, I would be absolutely thrilled.

“His record since he has been at Yorkshire has been outstanding. He is an absolutely quality guy who has shown that not only as a player but now as a coach. He is one of the world’s great coaches right now.”

Gillespie has been hot property for much of his three-year stay at Headingley.

He has been linked with international jobs with England and Australia, while he has been a regular fixture on Sky Sports’ coverage of the Big Bash League in recent winters. Adelaide were beaten semi-finalists in the most recent Big Bash.
