DURHAM won by 141 runs and will be safe as long as Lancashire do not pull off an unlikely win at Hove, where Sussex are chasing a target of 251 in 59 overs.
Middlesex were all out for 254 with the final wicket going to John Hastings in his farewell appearance.
Ollie Rayner, Toby Roland-Jones and Tim Murtagh all peppered the boundary, but it couldn’t last and there was also a wicket each for Ben Stokes and Peter Chase, who held the final catch.
