Dale Hopson could return to Darlington after the midfielder played in the club's final pre-season friendly on Saturday.
Manager Martin Gray made an offer to the 20-year-old after he impressed in a 4-1 win at Seaham Red Star on Saturday when striker Jamie Clarke twice got on the scoresheet.
Hopson came through the youth ranks and made an immediate impact when he burst into the first team last November.
The Teessider's contract expired at the end of last season and was recently on trial with League One Carlisle United.
While Gray awaits Hopson's decision, Quakers have already signed Dale Connor.
Formerly of Oldham and Sunderland, goalkeeper Connor will provide back-up because Chris Porter has a shoulder injury that means Jack Norton will start the Northern League season on Saturday against Bishop Auckland .
Gray is also hoping to secure a deal for a centre-back who has been on trial with Quakers.
