Darlington make another signing
Striker Steve Johnson tonight became Darlington's latest signing.
The former player West Auckland player has impressed manager Martin Gray during a trial with his hometown club for whom he has played throughout pre-season.
Johnson netted a hat-trick in last Saturday's 6-1 win at Glasshoughton Welfare, when he kissed the Quakers crest on his shirt after his second goal of the day.
That moment did not got unnoticed by Gray, who was equally impressed when he learnt that Johnson offered to play for Darlington for free during Quakers' crisis last season.
Gray will field Johnson, who has also played for Darlington RA, in Thursday evening's pre-season friendly at Richmond Town when Quakers will use a strong side.
Dan Smith, Chris Porter and Gary Brown are among those that will also play at Earls Orchard, as will the on-trial Liam O'Mahoney who was a youth team player with Darlington.
The game kicks-off at 7pm and admission is £4 and £2.
Meanwhile, Darlington have arranged an extra pre-season friendly, which shall be a match with Gateshead that will be Quakers' first at their new home in Bishop Auckland.
The Heed count a number of ex-Darlington players in their squad - Jamie Chandler, Liam Hatch, Jamie Barton, Rob Ramshaw and Jordan Nixon - and they will visit on Wednesday, August 8 (7.30pm).
The match will be Quakers' sole game at Heritage Park during pre-season. Manager Martin Gray was keen for his new team to play a match at the venue before the league season starts on August 18 against Bishops.
