Quakers hero ends playing days

Darlington's FA Trophy final hero, Chris Senior, has brought his playing days to an end, just 14 months after scoring Quakers' winning goal at Wembley.

Senior's header in the last minute of extra time in May last year against Mansfield ensured he became one of the club's all-time heroes, but he has quit playing to join the backroom staff at Huddersfield Town as a masseur.

Senior, however, has not ruled out signing for a club on non-contract terms so that he could play when Huddersfield are not in action.

The 30-year-old was released by Darlington after Wembley and started last season at Alfreton before being sent on loan to Guiseley.

Chris, thanks for a fantastic moment. The ball seemed to stay in the air for an eternity before you nodded it home, sending us 10,000 Darlo wild. The second greatest moment in my Quakers life since 1973, after Coatsworths goal at Welling which was slightly more important.
