Fundraiser for Darlington

This weekend sees two sets of Darlington fans contesting a fundraising football match with a difference, writes Josh Hollis.

Taking place at Eastbourne Sports Complex, Darlington, on Saturday, the match will see a team of men taking on a women's XI.

The brainchild of Darlington fan Sophie Parker, both teams are Quakers supporters and all proceeds will go to the Darlington FC Supporters Club.

Bobby Wallace, one of the organisers, praised Darlington Borough Council for their help. He said: "I got involved when Sophie was struggling to find a pitch to play on, and got in touch with the council. The very helpful Paul Soderman managed to secure the pitch at Eastbourne Sports Complex and they are allowing us to use it free of charge, for which we are very grateful."

He added: "We're hoping that as many people as possible will come down for a bit of fun for a couple of hours."

Kick-off is 1.30pm with admission £2 for adults and £1 for under-16s while there will also be a raffle.
