Two more signings for Darlington

Darlington have today completed two more signings, which include the capture of former Durham City striker David Dowson.

He was the joint third highest scorer in the Evo-Stik First Division North last season and, along with right-back Stephen Harrison, they have taken the number of new arrivals at Darlington to 12 in ten days.

Harrison was in the youth system at Sunderland and has since played for Spennymoor, Blyth and Bedlington Terriers.

Dowson, 23, bagged 21 league goals last season, 24 in all competitions, and he becomes the third player to join Quakers from Durham this summer.

He follows twins Amar and Arjun Purewal in moving to the club.

Well done Martin Gray with what look like more positive signings. I just hope that all the so called supporters who are still sitting on the fence, decide to get behind you and back 1883. No doubt the knockers and whingers will still be twittering, but I think the true supporters are 100% behind you.

Question - If the club wins their appeal and get placed in a higher league, are the players that they have signed already going to be good enough?

Something tells me that they will not.

Perhaps it would be wise to abandon the appeal and concentrate on making a team good enough to win this league and give what supporters that are left a great season and some much overdue joy.

Durham finished in the top half of Evostick Div 1 and seeing we'be arguably signed their best players plus other quality signings then yes Darlo should be good enough if we win our appeal and are placed in that div.

Most people reckon that the Northern League is easily on a par with the Evostik Division 1 North, so if we assemble a good Northern League team it should be good in the next league up should we get placed there on appeal.

If we happened to be placed in the Evostik Premier, which I doubt would happen anyway, we might have a couple of problems then.
