Updated 2.11pm: Positive news on Quakers expected

Administrator Harvey Madden Administrator Harvey Madden

DARLINGTON FC 1883 is confident it has overcome obstacles which had prevented it from buying the Quakers.

A positive announcement on the future of the football club is now expected at this afternoon's press conference at the Arena at 4pm.

Craig McKenna, from DFC 1883, confirmed this afternoon that the deadline for the company to buy the club had been extended and board members were now extremely hopeful of a successful outcome.

DFC 1883 said yesterday morning that it was ready to submit its offer for the club, however further complications emerged later in the day which prevented the purchase. It is understood these hurdles have now been overcome.

DFC 1883 announced last night it would be giving money back to fans who had bought shares in the company.

However, it would then ask them to reinvest their money in the new proposal.

If the sale goes ahead, DFC 1883 has this morning revealed it would need £100,000 by the end of June.

It is understood Darlington Uncovered fans forum has said the money it raised would be reinvested.

Darlington FC Supporters Club has also pledged to reinvest its cash.

The Northern Echo yesterday confirmed it would continue to back DFC 1883 if its plans were viable.

The Northern Echo understands critical talks are underway with the Quakers players this morning ahead of the deadline.

It was feared the Quakers playing licence would stay with former chairman Raj Singh, however it is thought DFC 1883 would be able to apply for a new licence from the FA.

Mr Madden will be at the Arena at 4pm this afternoon to answer questions from the media.

DFC1883 should be more open open and transparent to all ..If it's only 100k needed why don't they get that invested themselves ..They have wealthy individuals who are in involved so show your intent and what about Northern echo?

Wealthy individuals? The majority of 1883 are just the same as you and me, supporters of DFC. They have been as open as they can be considering confidentiality clauses and moving goal posts, please remember their intention at every point has been to be an interim board, to be replaced by folk the share holders vote in. This is all about becoming a community run football for the community. Folk are sick and tired of rich chairman and the problems that come with it. Hang in there and trust your fellow DFC supporters to try and save our club

They "DFC1883 "have not done their job openly maybe a couple of tweets to friends but not many answers to serious questions and concerns of investors over this crisis period..
Obviously the fund lost it's way due to lack of drive and commitment from those in charge not the ordinary people in the community who contributed more than anyone else..

Bullsh*t and you know it. As Charlie pointed out, there are confidentiality agreements preventing them being "open". However, if you have spent any time on the Uncovered messageboard you will see the efforts 1883 have made to keep us informed of developments. As for lack of drive and commitment, where do you get that from? 1883 have made a great effort to save the club and I'm not alone in appreciating their efforts. If the club does fold, you need to look elsewhere to lay the blame.

There is no `THEY` and its not a job, its a bunch of volunteers from the community, we wouldnt even have a club to save if it was not for 1883 and the rescue group before them, not to mention the different supporters groups, the schools and the many individuals who have fund raised, put money in buckets attended matches and bought shares. 1883 are the people in the community who put them selves out there, all of whom I had not met before this all took off. However I made an effort to get to know them and found all that i met to be open and trust worthy. I have also made many other friends who made an effort. I believe this a feeling of community, the very thing that we are striving for. I`m sorry you dont agree with me because you`ve missed out

I believe they still want a community club with no one owning more than 15% of the club. No matter what the sum raised.

The community is everyone not just you and friends on Darlo uncovered site...

Why bother setting deadlines ? How many times has this farce gone beyond the "deadline", get the gates locked and give us all a rest from the whole sorry saga.

I never said everyone I met was from the Uncovered Website, I`m talking about folk I`ve met at matches, folk coming to hand money over AND folk I`ve met on the Uncovered website. H@ll I even got chatting to a man in the main post office, elderley gentlemen before the York game, who has been a fan for years and years. That is the community feeling I am talking about, not just an online one

There are over 3,000 people registered as users of Uncovered, plus countless others who haven't registered. That's quite a community, and surely the quickest and best way of disseminating information about the football club. How else do you propose 1883 give information? It's easy to sit at a computer and type snide criticisms, but I suggest that you think it through next time.

What is the point of having a deadline if you keep moving it. What is there to save. The group on here have said that shareholders will be getting there money back. stop flogging a dead horse, face facts and move on

and asked to reinvest as the pitch has changed

great comment on Look North - DFC will remain the same, but it reminds me of Trigger's broom - "Its the same broom, just had seven new heads and 3 new handles!!!"

Being a supporter of Darlo FC is more important than the Uncovered site.

If there are 3000 on the uncovered registered then its a shame they could not find an average of £250.00 ea then there would be no discussion the club would be in the Northern League debts paid and going forward. Only 943 people Invested.

monteforte what is your problem with Uncovered? Its been a valuable tool the last few months, as has The Northern Echo Twitter and Facebook, its also full of Supporters of DFC and run by them. Each individual Darlo FC supporter is important, nobody disputes that, also important is spreading the news

The stumbling blocks havnt just been a lack of cash, not getting into that though, its out there in social media if you want to look for it

100k for what - goodwill you think any exists after shafting local businesses just to save a name There are no assets

Craig said only 1 player under contract and some furniture 100k yeah right

Even Shaun of the original rescue group has gone public that he was forced out by1883 which speaks volumes about their motives
Raj hit the nail on the head last night that not enough money was raised full stop as no one is really that bothered

As said above let it go-the fat lady has sang so many times shes lost her voice
