THE sudden reemergence of Tommy Wright and Chris Moore has given Mark Cooper reason to reevaluate their futures admits the Darlington manager.

He also believes their return to the reckoning should send a message to any complacent members of the squad that their Wembley place is not secure.

Wright and Moore had been out of the first first-team frame in recent months, but both emerged from the bench for the second half of Tuesday’s win at Kidderminster Harriers.

Darlington overturned a half-time deficit to win 2-1 with Moore scoring the winning goal while Cooper was pleased with Wright’s contribution.

The manager said: “Tommy and Chris given me something to think about which is what I wanted because it’s been far too easy for me to pick the team.

“Them coming into the squad might give somebody else a rocket up their backside and make them think ‘if I don’t pull my finger out in the last three games I might not play at Wembley’.

“Tommy has not played a lot of recently and I have questioned his desire, but he came on Kidderminster and straight away give their centre- backs something to deal with, something to think about. That’s what I want from a centre-forward, a bit of determination.”

Cooper added: “One swallow doesn’t make a summer for me. It’s been a long season and players have got to be performing consistently.

“But we’ll see, I’ve definitely got a lot of things to think about.”

Though Moore and Wright made an impact after being introduced as half-time changes, Cooper had already made three changes to the starting line-up which included Danzelle St Louis-Hamilton.

The goalkeeper made his second appearance for the club ahead of the rested Sam Russell, who was on the bench, and he again impressed – like he did at Histon last week.

“He looks like a decent keeper,” admitted Cooper.

“He didn’t do anything wrong and made a great save in the first half, he made a couple more in the second half and came to catch a couple of crosses under pressure late on.”

“He’s had two games and made some really good saves so he may be pushing Sam all the way now.”
