KILDALE reached the semifinals of the Frank Bainbridge Cup after hard-fought 3-1 home win over Sportsmans FC last Sunday.

The visitors had disposed of league champions Richmond Turf in the League Challenge Trophy the previous week, so arrived full of confidence.

Aaron Ramsbottom fired them into a 12th-minute lead, but Kildale hit back with a goal from Martin Rogan to take the tie into extra-time.

Wayne Stephenson then put the hosts in front five minutes into the first extra period before he then sealed their place in the last four with five minutes remaining.

With second-placed Sportsmans in cup action, Division One leaders Northallerton Police moved seven points clear at the top with a 4-1 home win over bottom side Three Coopers.

First half goals from Ben Darville and David Cooke set the Police on their way, while Dan Cardie and substitute Gary Shardha then sealed the points after the break.

Robert Thompsons moved into second place with a 5-2 win at in-form Spotted Dog.

Martin Cundy gave the Dog an early lead but Stuart Rose equalised soon after, while a penalty from Chris Moores then put the visitors from Thirsk in front.

Mark Swanwick made it 2-2 at the break but Rose restored the Thompsons advantage five minutes after the restart before a late brace from Dan McAlmont sealed the points in the closing stages.

Barton FC enjoyed a 5-1 home win over Great Broughton Hibs. A first-half brace from Mike Layfield put the hosts in control at the break, while Charlie Cox made it 3-0 soon after the restart. A free-kick from Paul Storey briefly raised Hibs’ hopes but Cox soon added his second before Neil Tarrant then completed the scoring ten minuets from time.

In Division Two, Northallerton WMC leapt back to the top of the table with a 4-2 home win over Brompton-on-Swale, who had started the day as leaders. The visitors raced into a 2-0 lead inside 12 minutes with goals from Anthony Lavery and Chris Pickersgill, and when Daniel Baxter put a penalty wide for the Workies it looked to be Brompton’s day.

But Adrian Tennant headed the hosts back into it before the break, while Baxter made amends with a second-half brace before Tennant added his second to send the Workies to the top of the table.

Nags Head United suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to bottom side Streetlam Farmers.

Tom Chapman gave the visitors an early lead, but John Bell brought Nags level before the break and they looked set to go on to a comfortable three points.

However, the Farmers were the better side in the second half and they picked up a vital win thanks to a marvellous 25- yard free kick from Frenchman Romain La Barre 15 minutes from time.

Hanson Sports are right back in the promotion frame after a 5-1 win at Blue Star.

Goals from Mark Sage and John Orchard set Hanson on the way inside half an hour but Tom James halved the arrears with a fine free-kick from 25 yards on the half hour mark.

However, Wayne Gredziak restored the Hanson two-goal advantage before the break while a second-half brace from Mark Findley then completed the scoring in the final 20 minutes.

There are now just two points separating the top six as the race for a place in Division One hots up.

In Division Three, leaders Catterick Village made it 14 wins out of 14 with a 6-1 home success over Knayton. The game was effectively over inside the opening quarter of an hour as goals from Josh Woofe, Steve Tweddle and Michael Ingram made it 3-0 while Woofe then added his second before the break.

The visitors pulled a goal back soon after the restart but Village would not be denied another victory as Luke Pearson and Ingram again sealed the points in the closing stages.

The Standard piled more yet misery on struggling Masons Arms with a 4-2 away win.

Steven Wood gave the visitors an early lead and, although Matty Fowler soon had the Masons level, Stuart Grant immediately restored the Standard’s lead.

Ross Hodgson brought the hosts level again before the break and that was the way it stayed until the last ten minutes when Masons substitute Liam Pilkington conceded two penalties in five minutes, both of which were converted by Joe Langthorne, to gift the visitors all three points and a place in the top four.
