with Noel Peacock Trial victory THE Richard Sadler bandwagon continued on a victory roll on home ground at Holgate, near Marske, Richmond, on Sunday, where the MRS Sherco teamster won the Noel Peacock Trial from John Sunter and Richard Timperley.

There were more points for Richard when he cleared the persistent Sunter by five marks. It would have been the same figure, less five, until Sadler slid off the slippery bank side rocks at Cold Bank where Julia Robinson duly stamped him with a failure, to match Will Reynolds and Tom Hick. Sunter was the best on two marks on the second of three laps.

In the youth ranks, Billy Bolt and James Stones banged in cleans, while class winner Jack Stones played safe with a 2-3-1 ride. The Arkengarthdale youngster stopped just once, in renowned Goates section where two subs opened up the 13-section course devised by David Peacock.

Jack posted a seventh overall in the hard course class where Leavening’s Adam Milner and joiner Brendan Suffell snatched the inter and novice victories. Twenty-four rode the hard course class.

Paul Dennis wrapped up the Greens from Mark Doughty and Adrian Harrison. Doughty handed over when he lost marks in the fourth sub at Goats where Ken Wallis held station as observer.

As expected, the numbers were up with a total of 134 riders in action.

Nine Class A riders rode green where James Hayhurst won from Jonathan Hillary and Chloe Richardson. Joe Simpson sorted 28 clubmen after Jonathan Hillary dropped maximums in Goats 2 and Telfit’s fallen building. The other Sadler, Paul R, stuck with his Montesa 4Rt to win the over-40s section.

Richmond popped in a new class for mono air-cooled machines which Philip Hodgson won on his Honda. The new class runs under the initials MO.

FACEBY’S Guy Kendrew, aboard the AM Ossa, never put a foot wrong – or down, for that matter – on Sunday to win the Guisborough DMC Alan Fothergill Trophy trial with a clean ride over a tough, four-lap, ten section course at Slapewath.

Try as they might, young guns Tom Affleck, from Yarm, and Matt Maynard, from Carlton, could not match Kendrew’s all-round consistency on the severe sections. Affleck’s problems arose on the double step out of the river of section nine, losing a maximum, while Maynard on a new Gasser lost nine on the tricky adverse camber of section seven.

Another Yarm rider, Richard Simpson, reversed the result of last weekend to beat Alan Carr of Scarborough by just one mark, with Middlesbrough’s Alan Williams putting in a strong ride to claim third.

Fryup’s British girls B class champion Nikita Smith dug in and held on for a three mark win over Jack Peace, from Kirkbymoorside.

York rider Joe Clements grabbed A class youth on 35 marks lost, which put him well up among the expert riders, while the ever-improving Zac Collinson won C class.

CASTLESIDE Trials Club put on their second trial of the month on Sunday, with 130 riders competing at Rogerley Quarry, in the Wear Valley.

On the Hard Course, John Crinson took a comfortable win from Carl Shaw. Phil Clark was well clear of Gary Younghusband on the Clubman Course and James Harland took his 500 Ajay round the Easy Course for just two marks, pushing Gordon Imrie into second spot.

Only the Experts had problems with the first section until Peter Grange made it look like a main road, and only Andrew Battensby and Crinson were to match his feet up ride over the twisting rock-strewn bankside.

The double subs two and three, over a mass of quarried rocks were unforgiving and only Crinson and Battensby cleaned the first, while the pair proved difficult for the Easy Course runners, with Colin Lee and Tom Nixon two of just a few to remain clean all day.

Brian Ridley’s chances of an Easy Course win took a knock after losing five on the second sub. Harland dropped his only marks on the downhill turn out of the ninth, and then the Experts had it rough on the last section where a pile of loose rocks took two threes off Crinson, alongside his two cleans, with rest resorting to pushing their way through on each lap. Clubman wise, Younghusband managed four excellent cleans, Clark and Lynam both dropped a single on their last laps and Tim Longstaff and Dave Humble were probably happy with their totals of three.

RICHMOND brothers Thomas and Luke Constantine travelled to Bingley to ensure a trials ride on Sunday.

Thomas took second place in Small Wheels Class C, while Luke won second place in the Class D Medium Wheels category.

British ladies trials champion Joanne Coles is retiring from the sport. The Derbyshire rider, 18, made her decision in December but only made it public on Saturday.

She has won just about every female championship class at national level and was world ranked number three with the good chance of being world champion this year. Miss Coles has made little comment apart from her decision to pursue other activities.
