IT WAS a winless weekend for Thirsk’s teams in a tough series of matches.
The women’s firsts, at home to Slazengers, enjoyed a confident start but conceded a goal in the first 15 minutes. Helen Goacher’s goal restored parity before half-time.
In the second half, Slazengers regained their lead, but Thirsk managed to pick their heads up and keep the pressure on and the effort of the whole team paid off.
A strong run down the wing by Anna Hunter led to a great cross right in front of the Slazengers goal to Stacey Bell who, on her return to the Thirsk team, delivered a strong reverse stick hit on to the backboard.
The final score was 2-2.
The men’s seconds were also at home, against Division Eight leaders Bingley. After a goalless first half and a slow start to the second half, it became obvious that one goal would win the tie, and Bingley duly delivered this.
This was then followed by a further two goals for the visitors as Thirsk tried to push players forward to level the match. They are now fourth in Division Eight with three games remaining.
Under-strength Thirsk men’s firsts struggled to make an impact on their opponents this weekend, going down 4-1 to their hosts Rotherham, Chris Gabbott scoring the consolation goal.
The ladies seconds drew 1-1 away to the City of York.
