Darlington tomorrow head to Morecambe, the side who inflicted one of Quakers’ darkest days of the season, but revenge will not be a motivating factor.

That’s manager Steve Staunton’s stance, the Irishman prefers to focus on continuing the steady improvement Quakers have shown since the Shrimps’ 4-0 win at the Arena in November.

The result was Darlington’s heaviest home defeat for twoand- a-half-years and came during a spate of comprehensive losses since when Staunton has drastically overhauled his side.

Only three of the XI which started November’s game will be in the line-up tomorrow.

Quakers are aiming to follow up two encouraging results and Staunton said: “There’s no revenge on the agenda, we’re just looking to improve and do better than we did in the first half of the season.

“Since the winter break we have looked solid, we have looked like a team that can score, can defend and can play some good football.

“There’s a resilience there now. Apart from the first 45 minutes at Crewe I’m delighted with the lads.

“But we’re nowhere near the finished article. I didn’t think we were at the races in the first half on Tuesday, considering what we’re capable of, but we were still worthy leaders at half-time.

“We’re staying positive.

We’ve played the majority of teams in this league and when you speak to other managers they say there isn’t a great deal of difference.”

The 4-0 result came during a run of seven consecutive Morecambe victories.

But in the seven games since Sammy McIlroy’s side have won only once, and Staunton added: “There’s nothing to fear from any team in the division. Especially when I see our back four dominating games rather than be dominated by strikers.

“Before Christmas teams were dominating our midfield and back four, but we’re actually winning them battles now and the more battles you win the more chance you have of winning the game.”

Tomorrow’s game will be Quakers’ last at Christie Park as Morecambe are moving to the 6,000 capacity Globe Arena.

Staunton added: “They’re leaving to go to a fantastic stadium which is great for them but we’ve only got one thing on our minds and that’s to get a good result.

“We want to put a run together.

It’s sad to say but we’re unbeaten in two games for the first time this season. We’re looking to extend that.”
