Allerton Juniors Athletics Club athletes finished the track and field season in style, coming second overall in the first division North East Youth Development League (NEYDL).

Together with track-partner club Darlington Harriers, Allerton Juniors finished behind Harrogate in a best ever performance by the club.

Head Coach Glen Hilton said: “This is one of the proudest days in my coaching career. Massive thanks to my coaches and to our brilliant parents who have helped out this summer and driven our athletes across the county.”

He continued: “There have been so many outstanding performances throughout the NEYDL but one athlete who deserves a special mention is Macauley Wilson whose performances in the 100m, 200m and Long Jump just keep getting better and better.”

The youngest athletes in the club also competed at a track meet at City of York Athletics Club with some fantastic results. Thomas Mills came second in the U11 Boys 75m race in a time of 12.08 and Tommy Calver Hare came fifth in a time of 12.54.

Freyer Garnett came third in the U11 Girls 75m race in a time of 13.60. In the U11 Boys 150m races, Tommy Calver Hare came first in a time of 26.19 seconds, Henry Robb third in 23.53 seconds and Corey Southern fourth in 27.63 seconds.

The club was also represented at the Northern Track Championships on August 13 by Mason Savory, who came sixth in his heat of the U13 Boys 200m in a time of 30.65.

Hilton said: “I am delighted for this young man. He’s had a fantastic Northern Track Championship and has a very bright future in athletics.”

There were also successes at the Darlington 10K with Noah Wilson (U17) being the first junior home in a time of 35.51.

There was a great club turnout by younger members in the Darlington 3K event with fantastic performances by Cameron Henderson (fourth overall and second in the 14-plus age category in a time of 10.21), followed closely by Finn Pomfret who was fifth overall and third in the same age category in a time of 10.40.

Jake Holmes was ninth overall and third in the 10/11 year age category and Martha Shakesheff was second girl home, 13th overall and second in the 12/13 year old category with Natasha Pointon finishing closely behind her. Connie Wilford had an amazing run and was first in the 10/11 year old age group.
