WHAT a weekend. Graham Jarvis lost out big time as Michael Brown and James Dabill ruled the roost in the Scottish Highlands in round one of the Colin Appleyard ACU British Trials Championship.

Shaun Morris got back on the podium at Kinlochleven after the serious eye injury which blocked his eleventh-hour attempt to beat Jarvis for the championship title last year.

Something went seriously wrong with the Lochaber club's trials course. A slight shower mid-trial seemed to affect some sections.

Brown's score was 74, but Dabill led until the third lap, then lost the plot. Expert winner Jack Challoner got through two sections without penalty, but James Carr, Zac Sherwin and John Sunter retired after miserable opening laps. But the big problem is they all have to do it again in Wales next Sunday.

But the Women's British Trials Championship at Ipstones went off without any drama. Reigning champion Becky Cook lost ten marks in her winning adult ride, while Katy Sunter was fourth and gained 13 championship points.

Joanne Coles won class A youth from Hannah Styles and Harriet Peacock. The three teenagers rode the same course as the adults.

Nikita Smith and Hannah Richardson topped class C, with Thornton le Dale girl Kate Hunter third. Robyn Alderson, from Askrigg, topped the podium in class A and B youth inters, scoring maximum championship points.

Keith Blythe switched from centre championship mode to the Ripon MC Acklam's Motorcycles Summer Championship mode on Saturday afternoon at Grantley, where 135 riders converged for a novice and beginners' event. Some turnout for Judith Blythe and the results team.

And it was a funny result as well, but not for clean-sheet Kirkby Malzeard Beta rider David Mawer, who kept Mr Acklam, alias Paul Sadler, and his son Joel, off top spot.

Despite the snow and rain of recent days, the sections rode well. Only one other cleaned the hard course - James Stones, who descended from Scott Trial country and actually curbed his right hand enough to win the youth class from a very on-form Chris Hunt and Josh Swiers.

The weather failed to dampen spirits at Low North Park on Sunday, where Scarborough got the 2008 closed-to-club championship season up and running.

There were some rain showers, and it was cold at the seaside for the opening round in the series, but the riding was red hot.

Riding friends and hot rivals Andrew Chilton and Simon Kershaw elected to ride Peter Race's Masters course sections.

The rapidly-improving young rider from Malton, Adam Milner, clinched his first Premier win since moving to expert status only a few short months ago.

Riding the extremely greasy, but fast-drying course of Thirsk DMC's Long Plain Farm venue, Milner pipped the more experienced Paul Sadler, of Richmond, by one mark.

Although Sadler, now riding inter class, is not the force he was a few years ago, and tends to oversee the progress of son Richard, but he is still a seriously good rider.
