EASTER has been a busy time for athletes from Allerton Junior Athletics Club.

On Saturday, April 16, the U13 girls team of Martha Shakesheff, Isobel Cook and Holly Nash ran brilliantly to win the Yorkshire Road Relay Championships in Barnsley. Head coach Glen Hilton said: "This was a great performance showing the depth of talent that we have in the club, with the more experienced Isobel Cook being teamed with relative newcomers Martha and Holly. Our U13 squad is very strong and we look forward to continued success over the coming track season."

There were also some personal best performances at the York Invitation Track Meeting on Monday, April 18 in Heslington, York. Most notably, Freya Wilford ran 12.83 seconds to win the U13 girls 70 metre hurdles and came second in the 75m in 11.24 secs. Connie Wilford won the U11 girls 75m in 11.61 secs, came second in the 150m in a time of 23.18 secs and was also second in the 600m in 2.09 minutes. James Throup came third in the U13 boys 800m in a fantastic PB of 2.41 mins and Olivia Throup, on her debut for the club, came fifth in the both the 70m hurdles and 75m sprint in 13.94 secs and 11.78 secs respectively.

Continuing with the theme of personal best performances, there were also a few notable Parkrun performances over Easter. Cameron Henderson (U15) ran a fantastic PB of 7.32 minutes in the 2km Junior Parkrun in Northallerton and Henry Kirkbride (U15) and William Horlock (U15) ran PBs of 19.10 and 21.55 respectively in the 5km Albert Parkrun in Middlesbrough. These are amazing times for such young athletes.

Finishing Easter on a high, the first North East Youth Development League Meeting (NEYDL) was held in Whitley Bay on Sunday, April 24. Hilton said: "This was the first big first division track meeting of the season with our track partners, Darlington Harriers, and our athletes did not disappoint. I have never been more proud of our squad – there were PB times, throws and jumps galore and a massive team effort ensured that we finished third overall, after the much larger clubs of Harrogate and North Shields."

Stand-out PB performances included: Charlie Morton in the U17M 100m with a time of 12.7 secs; Aaron Kurian in the U15B 200m in 27.2 secs; Tristan Baker in the U17M 1500m in 5.15 mins, Isobel Cook in the U13G 800m in 2.41 mins, Holly Nash in the U13G 800m in 2.52 mins, and David Patrick Cardie in the U13B 100m in 15.7 secs.
