CATTERICK Golf Club enjoyed its club weekend, raising more than £500 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Events started on Friday with the mixed 4BBB nine hole competition. Val Carveth and Gareth Harris in first place with 22pts, beat Sandra Jones and Ian Mack on countback.

Saturday was Ladies Day, and the rainbow colours set the tone for a thoroughly enjoyable day, despite the overcast, damp conditions.

The day was a team effort, organised by the committee, and masterminded by Sandra Jones, with help from many ladies including a wonderful spread at the Half Way House.

The ladies competed for the Lady Captain’s Cup. There were prize vouchers for the winner, Sue Bingham with 40pts on countback from Yvonne Leach, also with 40pts (2nd) and Caroline Whitehead with 39pts (3rd). There were also prizes, for nearest the pin won by Ann Hargreaves, and straightest drive won by Margaret Ferguson. There was no prize for Ruth Suffell’s eagle three at the par five, 11th hole, but Ruth did win a four-ball voucher for The Hobson, donated by the chairman, from the charity draw. Pat Weymes also won a four-ball voucher for Boldon.

The nine-hole competition was won by Jean Harvey with 20pts. Jean also won the Palmer Putter Competition, with 15 putts, over nine holes on the putting green. The prize for the best dressed lady went to lady vice-captain, Sue Marshall.

Saturday’s prize events included the men's nine-hole three clubs and a putter challenge won by Gareth Harris, with second place going to Gavin Whitehead.

On Sunday, the men's club weekend medal (white tees) was won by Alan Pratt (nett 64), ahead of Bobby Hutt (nett 65) in second and Ian Doughty (nett 66) in third.
