RICHMOND Golf Club held a Ladies’ Golf Taster Session on Saturday, June 19, when 24 players new to the sport were given free coaching from resident PGA professional Mark Robson of the Graeme Storm Golf Academy, based at the club.

Mark went through the basics of the sport including putting, driving and chipping, following the "play safe/stay safe" protocol from England Golf.

Mark said: "It was a superbly run event which the ladies loved from start to finish. There was a great buzz around the club and some extremely good golf played. On the whole, it was a great representation of what life is like at Richmond Golf Club."

Barbara Gregory, a director at Richmond and champion of the Women-in-Golf programme at the club, added: "It was lovely to see so many ladies having such a good time. Golf is great fun, echoed in all the laughing that could be heard during the afternoon. Together with our professional Mark, and with many members helping out, the ladies had a great introduction to golf at this event. As part of our engagement with the Women-in-Golf charter, our golf club is committed to help and support more women and girls to get into golf."

Everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable time learning the fundamentals of the game and many have indicated that they would like to get further involved with the sport. To round off the day everyone enjoyed a glass of Prosecco on the Club patio, bathed in sunshine.

Another free golf taster session is planned for the near future. Anyone interested should call Amy Lancaster on 01748 823231 or email secretary@richmondyorksgolfclub.co.uk
