Richmond Motor Club, Dick Horner Memorial Trial, Wensley, Sunday.

The sun shone down on Wensley on Sunday where the Richmond Motor Club staged the annual Dick Horner Memorial Trial on Lord Bolton’s acres and also Peter Simpson, Chris Iveson and Metcalfe Farms.

Despite other events in Yorkshire Event Secretary Sandra Fowler processed one hundred and fourteen entry forms such is the popularity of the trial.

Coverdale farmer Steve Lambert plotted the three lap twelve section course which ran through Tulliscote Farm and lofty Shawl Woods.

Ted Harston set an eight section course adjacent to the vehicle park which also covered three short laps which was enough for his young chargers.

The boys who hit the headlines were George Bird, Finlay Harsley, Joel Thwaite and Mathew Hall.

Hird was under pressure from determined Oliver Watson and Bailey Huntbach.

A mere four penalties separated the trio.

The opening section featured an alarming descent and an even steeper climb avoiding large tree.

Only Mark Willis, Leigh Smith and Stephen Cornforth mastered the section on all three laps.

Class winner Richard Fraser lost one mark on his first visit then was faultless on laps two and three.

Sections two and three posed no great threat but the fourth was tricky with its tight turn and climb over rocks.

Only Stuart Hall and top youth Ryan Brown mastered the section. The Shawl Wood sections under the trees were mild with perhaps section eight taking its toll in all classes.

A great trial, in good weather and with sensible section for all ages.
