Guisborough & D.M.C. Alan Fothergill Trial, The Quarry, Aislaby, Sunday

DISREGARD parking on the day and Guisborough DMC came up with an absolute corker for their Alan Fothergill Trophy trial on Sunday.

Held at Aislaby quarries near Whitby, JST Gas Gas rider Jack Peace - globe - trotting superstar from just over the hill at Kirkbymoorside - topped the results by just one mark from Malton`s Ian Austermuhle and local lad Andy Chilton who just rolled out of bed for this one.

Conditions proved tough going for some, but it wasn`t until the steep drop, sharp climb through trees where Mia McGee observed that marks began to soar, only the smooth, precise skills that Austermuhle possesses seeing him clean every visit.

Peace lost his only marks here, a three and one, but Chilton lost five here, and with it the trial, as did Austy on the difficult rocks of the sixth, but furthest clean earned him runner up berth.

Scarborough's Gary Collinson revelled in these conditions, topping a strong Inter class with a storming ride, leaving Jak Holtby and Russ Rooksby to pick up the crumbs, Collinson the only rider to clean the last two section which earned him the win.

It would be a happy ride home for the trials mad Laws family - three competing, two observing - as both Imogen and Elliott grabbed their class wins only dad Chris letting the side down finishing fifth in Clubman B.

He never recovered from ten lost on the drop and climb of the very first, leaving Colin Bailey, Paul Nelson Ian Pyman and Richard Ward to better his score.

As Clubman A rider Roy Jarvis remarked afterwards " It was a tough event, but I thoroughly enjoyed it".

A good crop of youngsters battled round and did well to gain a finish in tough conditions, none more so than Holly Dixon and Aaron Oliver in Youth D. Holly, a real battler through sections, never giving up, brought to mind another `pocket rocket` of a few year ago that started out on a TY80, one Nikita Smith.

Miss Dixon had Dave Chilton as minder for the day, and he told me "I thought these days were long gone for me once Andy was through the ranks."
