TEAMS representing a community-run leisure club are now have a sporty new look thanks to its new sponsor.

Following the threat of closure Leyburn Squash Club was saved by a small group of dedicated players who got together to ensure it didn’t happen. Re-opening last September as Leyburn Community Leisure Club, a non-profit organisation the club is open every day, offers professional coaching facilities but mostly relies on volunteers to cover reception and the bar.

Since the re-launch the club membership now stands at approximately 90. Having been very successful in the past, Leyburn still boasts several top-class players. They have five teams that compete in local leagues and competitions.

Local firm Campbells of Leyburn have now stepped-in with some assistance of their own, sponsoring the team’s strip; the men’s shirt is a bright yellow and the ladies’, dark blue.

Kath Campbell said: “As a family-run firm we have strong links to both our customers and community. I felt that it was a deserving cause and both the teams look good.”

Club committee member Amanda Adamson said: “A kind gesture like this from Campbells is just the kind of support we need to keep going; we are all very grateful.”

Leyburn Community Leisure Club is open weekdays from noon, Saturdays 10am and Sundays 2pm. To contact the club or for information ring 01969 622929 or email leyburncommunitylc@gmail.com.
