North East Centre Middle England Trial, East Harthope, Sunday.

On behalf of the North East Centre Championship trial last Sunday, the Middle England Club had been hard at it at their relatively new Dene How course near Castleside in County Durham, unearthing no less than seven new sections, which put fifty six to the test at the wooded venue.

It was really close on the Expert Route with only three marks covering the first three riders in what turned out to be a high scoring contest, with Steve Bennett heading home Roger Williams and Carl Shaw.

With every section bar one taking marks off every rider, the scores were always going to be high but the winner was only in double figures in two of the ten sections.

Paul Nicholson joined Gary Pears in dropping onto the Clubman Course and the pair duly and expectedly fought for the top spot, which went Nicholson's way, after he had completed his round on forty one, fifteen clear of Pears. Grant Gillender had a rare outing and went home having taken third place ahead of Alex Bell.

Garry Bloodworth lost five in section two, but completed the rest of the course for just two further marks to claim the Easy Course win, pushing Michael Minns out by a couple of marks. Ian Cheetham took his pre 65 mount for sixteen, enough for third place.

Three course were on offer for the Conducted entry, and Annabelle Bolt, Joe Younghusband and Ella Hodgson all took their respective class wins.

Weardale & D.M.C. Charity Trial, Harthope, Sunday

Weardale and District Motor Club held their annual Charity Trial at Harthope, above St. John's Chapel last weekend, with the proceeds heading to Alzheimer's Research, courtesy of the fine entry of sixty three entrants.

However, Andy Huddleston was showing no charity to his fellow competitors on the Expert Route, as he waltzed the course without loss, the second time he had kept a clean sheet in consecutive trials. Jason Scott was best of the rest on eighteen, closely followed by Stephen and William Dalton.

John Bennett went for the Green Course and came out on top after parting with nine marks, six less than Lewis Braithwaite. Over half the winner's marks went in the sixth section, with the last section giving him his only other problem.

Horsforth D.M.C. Bob Owen Charity Trial., The Parkwood Offroad Centre , Tong, Saturday

One year ago fifteen year old Bradford trials rider Keiran Child won the youth class at the twenty eighth Bob Owen Charity Trial at the Parkwood Offroad Centre at Tong.

On Saturday Keiran won the same trial outright, beating to some of the top local competitors. His victory also gained him the top novice rider award.

The Horsforth Motor Club staged the event which commemorates the name of a former president of the Yorkshire Centre A.C.U, and well known speedway referee and scrambler.

Over the years the trial as donated thousands of pounds to charities. Saturday's event, supported by one hundred and one competitors, will no doubt maintain the Horsforth club's excellent record.

The trial ran as planned with three laps and fourteen sections but the scores for the last section vanished so after a very lengthy search Event Secretary Martin Fairburn took the decisions to post the results over thirteen sections.

Glasshouse electrician Danny Gamble chose to ride a very old watercooled Fantic to win the expert class
