JOSH ALLEN 17, a Stokesley School pupil from Nunthorpe, achieved a bronze medal for the 800 metres when he represented England in the Commonwealth Youth Games in the Bahamas two weeks ago.

On the Friday before the games he ran the heats and qualified for the final.

The following day he fought a gutsy race, taking the lead on several occasions, eventually finishing third. Alex Botterill from Yorkshire took gold, Jordan Doris from Australia silver, and Josh took the bronze.

He was watched by his parents Barbara and Sean Allen, and by his coach, Martin Peevor, who was there to encourage and help with the warm ups. They were overjoyed by his performance.

Josh was delighted with his medal. "This is my first England vest," he said, "and to come away with a medal in my first international event is a dream come true."
