Richmond Motor Club. Kidstones Trial, Bishopdale, Sunday

Richmond ventured to Bishopdale and Kidstones Bank for their trial on Saturday where seventy one competitors in eleven classes competed over a three lap twelve section course laid out by Richard Sadler who competed and was beaten by James Stones who also put one over Jack Wood winner Dan Thorpe.

Predictably Roger Williams won the Inter class by a mile from Russell Cannell.

Tom Needham again headed the youth ranks on the hard course. Ryan Brown will have to do some hard practicing to bridge the gap but the Bellerby youngster is showing all the right signs.

The Green course featured an interloper from Barnsley.

Tony Kaye took a day out from dispensing motorcycles at his Road & Trials emporium and gave Gary Thwaite a challenge beating top winner Adrian Harrison in the process.

Andy Kearton was the top clubman by planting his eleven year old Montesa 4rt in front of Paul Sadler and Stuart Hall.

Paul lost the class in the last section and would have won the class on a tiebreaker but for three penalties in section twelve. The weather turned showery during the trials and the river levels rose.

Ripon Motor Club, J. L Ellis Memorial Trial/ Yorkshire Centre Trials Championship, Winksley, Sunday

A little matter of a 10 kilometre road walk disrupted plans for the annual Jack Leslie Ellis Memorial Trial on Sunday on the wilds of north Yorkshire.

Road work to distant sections like Wards and Skelding Moor just happened to be right on the walker’s intended route so Keith Blythe and Mark Langstaff moved fast to take the entire Yorkshire Centre Championship totally off-road utilising Hencliffe Valley, Ramsden’s Wood and Mill House Farm, the latter the base of the Fleetham family.

Peter Fleetham set off with bag full of route and section flags to open gates, check the route and then compete.

The Ripon team managed to produce the obligatory fourteen sections, requisite for a championship trial.

Ben Hemingway won the expert class from Dan Thorpe and Ian Austermuhle. Ossett’s Thomas Hourecroft headed the Inter class from Joel Sadler and Rawdon’s Louis Haley.

Sam Jennings played his trombone to a packed house at Leeds Town Hall on Saturday evening then rode his Montesa to top novice position on Sunday.

A packed weekend for the Guiseley musician. Mirfield footware retailer Ander Jackson excelled on his new Scorpa from Tony Kaye and Ilkley decorator Graham Tales.

Stanley Motor Club, trial, Butsfield, Co Durham, Sunday

With the Kia Championship at Edmundbyers taking care of the North East trials on Sunday, Stanley Club slipped in another event at Butsfield in County Durham the day before to ensure everyone had a chance to get out on their bikes last weekend.

Stephen Bennett just got the better of Travis Ward and Scott Aitkin on the Expert course, only two marks separating these three at the finish.

Most sections were taking marks, albeit in single dabs here and there but Aitkin really lost out after a disastrous section five cost him eleven of his total of sixteen.

Class B rider Bobby Young had an excellent ride on the Clubman course, taking the win on just two marks, one less than Chris Laws, who was closely followed by son Elliott.

Eboracum M.C. 2nd Club trial, Deepdale Quarry, Kirkbymoorside

Pocklington's Olly Kendra rode to an emphatic win on Sunday at Eboracum's MC's 2nd Club championship round at their Deepdale Quarry venue near Kirkbymoorside and Fryup`s Nikita Smith edged Mark Taylor out of the top spot in the Intermediate class.

A glorious morning and the young, keen new bloods in the club - the Wainwright lads and their gang of helpers - did a fantastic job plotting the sections among the huge rocks and dried up river bed of this venue, taking marks from all the ninety odd entry, apart from one, the remarkably fit and just out of retirement - again - Clubman B over fifty winner Mark Summer.

Smith really shone on the difficult fourth, cleaning every lap, only John Benton getting close to her score with one mark lost and James Wainwright, aboard the new Vertigo proved best, also only one lost on the sixth.

A great Twin shock entry and only a handful of marks separated the top six Steve Kirkwood, Fantic, winning by one mark from Mick Grant on the BSA while Danny Hunter had to muscle the Ariel.
