A SQUASH player has been called up to represent his county for a third time.

Colin Shields, who plays at Darlington Squash Club, will represent England in the over 60s event in the home internationals in May.

The 60-year-old previously played for England in the over 50s event in 2007, and then six years later in the over 55s.

He secured his place in the team after reaching the final of a regional event in Winchester, but was unable to claim the title after he injured himself midway through the match.

Mr Shields, who puts a lot of his success down to his coach Ken Robinson, said: “I never thought I would be able to achieve this – it just goes to show if you work hard at something, you can achieve anything.

“I do not feel my age at all - it has done me a lot of good to play so much, and now I have retired, I can play even more.”

The home internationals take place in Nottingham between May 4 and 6.
