A RECORD number of young athletes representing their running club have earned their places to compete in the English Schools’ Athletic Association Cross Country Championship.
Keen runners who train with the Darlington Harriers and Athletics Club, based at the Eastbourne Sports Complex, will showcase their talent on the national stage with 10 club members taking part in the contest.
Nine of the young athletes will represent County Durham during the prestigious winter event that will be hosted at the Norfolk County Showground, in Norwich, later this month.
One runner from the under-15 junior team will also represent North Yorkshire as part of the cross country stage.
A Darlington Harriers spokesman said: “The championships at Norfolk County Showground, on March 18, will bring the curtain down on a hugely successful cross-country season for the Harriers youngsters, whose Under 15 girls were team winners in the North Yorkshire and South Durham series.”
Junior athletes, Ben Lambert, Max Harris, Stella Jones, Catherine Roberts, Harriet Rogers, India Pentland, James Roberts, Lucy-Erin Hunter and Katie Noble, will represent Durham during the day, with Emma Hart representing North Yorkshire.
