LEYBURN joiner Richard Sadler again trimmed his rivals down to size with a winning ride at the Albert Shaw Memorial Trial at Fremington Edge on Sunday.

Again fellow joiner Guy Kendrew was the threat. The Faceby woodworker constructs specialist orders and also has set a record of being the most frequent winner in north Yorkshire last year.

Sadler actually gapped Kendrew in the last four sections on the fifteen section course. A total of one hundred and fourteen riders, in thirteen classes, competed over a two lap course which started south of the village of Hurst and travelled to Fremington Edge.

Paul Dennis took a break from producing high class sausages to win the Green course class leaving his seven year old daughter Martha to wait a another week before making her debut on her brand new one piece riding suit. Roger Williams dropped in from his North Sea gas platform to take the Inter class on the hard course.

Just how he switches from a metal platform to mud and rocks is a mystery that confounds his rivals.

Paul Sadler made it a family double by heading the Clubman category to beat Mark Simpson while Askrigg’s Robyn Alderson displayed all the family traits by taking a fine third place.

The younger end of the entry, all sixteen of them, competed on a shorter three lap course, with just ten sections.

Ripon’s Harry Mugridge just took class BE, by a single penalty, from Leyburn’s Conrad Fowler. Both boys wer jut too experienced for their rivals although Skeeby’s Amber Richardson was on them and missed out b just two marks. Charlie Astwood headed Class ED from Rory Wilkinson with the determined Ben Sunter working hard with his Oset to claim third in class.

Scarborough & DMC, East Yorkshire Centre Championship, Low North Park, Harwood Dale, Sunday.

A COLD, but sunny Sunday greeted the ninety competitors, with all the Centre`s top experts turning out to do battle at Scarborough DMC`s East Yorks Centre Championship trial at Low North Park. Experience triumphed over youth. Gas Gas teamster Michael Brown edging Jack Peace into runner up position by one mark, with Scorpa`s Andy Chilton six marks further back.

Three laps of twelve sections sorted most classes out, but Brown and Peace were well matched, Brown dropping one on the difficult Pre 65 gully and another one at Rivers Meet. Peace stuck with him, but three seperate dabs on one, three and nine meant second place for the Pinhard man.

Chilton`s challenge faded with three lost at the third and a couple on the very last section, while TRS man Adam Milner had a poor day never really getting going and settled for fifth behind Tom Affleck.

A solid ride from Shane Monkman, riding a Gas Gas machine, beat Shaughan Galway and Gary Collinson, as he lifted the Intermediate win.

Monkman was the only rider to clean the fifth and sixth hazards every lap.Whitby`s Mike Noble seems to produce his best form here and he did it again, just five marks lost to win Clubman A class, leaving the likes of Phil Perry, Alan Carr and David Coulson well back - although Dave would be chuffed to beat his dad Mark by two points - on double figure scores. Experience again took the top five places in B`s.

Equally biked on trusty old Yamaha`s, equally matched skill wise, Colin Bailey and Darren Johnson could only be split by most cleans rule, Bailey winning by a whisker. Andrew Dale and Rick Jackson were close, but not close enough and finished third and fourth. A good, promising crop of youths out again and Matilda Arbon put in a solid ride to gain victory over Harrison Skelton in a strongly contested Youth D class.
