NORTHALLERTON and District MC had good weather and a great turnout of 90 riders for their Spout House pre-Christmas trial at Chop Gate last Sunday.

Faceby's Guy Kendrew played the part of Scrooge to perfection, giving away a miserly one mark with a ride of sheer consistency around the three-lap, 12-section moorland course.

Kendrew has enjoyed a remarkable season and proved bang on form as early as the first section in the field, an adverse camber and grassy bank exit. He was the only expert to remain clean as Richard Sadler needed one each lap.

But it was section eight, a 5ft rock step across a greasy camber before tackling the awkward tree root exit, where Kendrew shone. Two amazing cleans and his only mark of the day dropped on his second lap.

Sadler, who was unlucky when stalling out for a five, said: "Guy deserved the win today. He really did ride well."

It was tough going for inters, but comeback kid Steven Suddes dug in well to secure the win from Jonathon Frost, with

motocross man Steven Hind third.

York's Mark Butler turned the clubman B results about with his first ride on a Sherco, edging the experienced Dave Clarke into runner-up berth by two marks. The pair were well matched throughout, but Butler pulled out all the stops on the eighth to clean every lap, as did veteran Joe Buckworth, winner of a strong twin shock class.

Clarke struggled here with eight going astray, only Paul Pulman and Mark Summer getting anywhere near Butler's score on four.

Riding the same route as clubman B, the first three twin shock finishers – Buckworth, Dave Wardell and Mick Grant – all blew 30 odd years of technology away by bettering the clubman B winner's score.
