RICHMOND Town continued their high-scoring form when they ran out 9-1 winners over Horden CW at Earls Orchard last Saturday.

The visitors took a 21st-minute lead against the run of play when Kieran Voss headed a cross beyond Adam Cunningham, who was back between the sticks due to Karl Latcham’s suspension, but the scores were level three minutes later when Connor Lyon, playing in a much more advanced role than usual, burst into the box to score his first goal for the club.

Four minutes later, Stephen Butterworth fired Town ahead when he turned and shot from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

Colin Anderson volleyed wide from a Scott Ryan cross before the Town captain picked out Mark Hemmingway, who failed to connect. Danny Aldridge then got beyond Richmond’s back line, but Cunningham was quickly off his line to clear.

Kalumn Holbrook added a third for Richmond in the 43rd minute when he got on the end of Anderson's pass.

Two minutes into the second period, Ryan scored from a Lyon cross before adding his second and Town’s fifth with a diving header from six yards out after Michael Gunnell’s left-wing cross.

Town manager Chris Lax brought on Nathan O’Connor with an hour played and he was immediately in the action. Butterworth volleyed wide before Anderson and O’Connor were denied as the Horden defenders came to the rescue of keeper Frankie Smettem when blocking both efforts on the line.

Mark Edzes was replaced after coming off worse in what looked like a bad tackle which went unpunished. It had been a dominant performance from the centre half.

Soon after, Ryan fired over when clean through, then Butterworth and O’Connor were kept out by Smettem.

With 77 minutes played, Anderson added a sixth for the home side. His work rate throughout the game deserved a goal, which came when he converted Ryan’s pass.

Ryan completed his hat-trick, his third in as many weekends, after 79 minutes. O’Connor’s delightful pass found Lyon, whose ball across the box picked out the in-form front man, who scored his fourth nine minutes later, Holbrook this time providing the pass.

With the game almost over, Ryan returned the favour when he picked out Holbrook just inside the box and he chipped Smettem to make it 9-1.

Richmond, second in the table, take on third-placed Boldon at Earls Orchard tomorrow, kick-off 2.20pm.
