Richmond and Zetland Harriers

MIKE Jeffries took on the hilly 20 miles of the aptly named Spen 20, and crossed the line in 1:59:54, to take third place and also third in the Yorkshire 20-mile championships. Steve Middleton was 13th (3rd V40, 2:09:21).

Michelle Nolan won the Liverpool half marathon in an excellent time of 1:20:25.

Jeremy Pattison took to the Bradford 10k, and finished 19th in 37:28, with Aaron Auton, in his first big 10k, an excellent 39th, breaking 40 minutes in 39:06.

Jacqui Keavney took on the Dentdale 14.2 and ran well to finish 55th, fifth lady and top V55 in 1:41:29.

At the Manchester 10k, Fergus Roberts was 39th in a new pb of 31:29. Dan Holdsworth smashed his pb by over 90 seconds, finishing 149th in 33:41. Nick Mason had a fine race in 287th (38:35) and Anthony Jefford was 309th (39:34). Harewood House was the setting for the Age UK 10k with Mark Crawford seventh in 38:29, Kevin Bond 151st in 47:55 and Jane Bond 955th in 62:08.

Peter Armstrong ran the Locke park 20 in 02:25:10, a pb by over three minutes.

At the English Schools cross country championships in Nottingham, Liam Rabjohn, representing North Yorkshire in the senior boys and just coming back from injury, had a steady run in 224th place. Holly Flannery, in the senior girls, was 168th and the fourth North Yorkshire qualifier from the team of eight.

In the junior girls, Anna Harrison was fifth for the Cleveland team.

Ronnie Corbett has combined his love of running and cycling and at the Oulton Park spring duathlon he finished second in his age group to qualify to represent team GB at the ITU world championships over the sprint distance n Aviles, Spain.

Parkruns: Carl Jones 4th at Albert park in a new pb of 17:08; Ken Harker 7th (17:45). Harry Robson led them all home at Darlington with a pb (16:40), followed by James Greer 3rd (17:26, pb), Luke Hack 5th (17:41 and Dave Hack just behind in 6th (17:46). Lee Davies 13th (18:11, pb), Ronnie Corbett 14th (18:24), Simon Withers 25th (19:44, pb), Anna Harrison 49th (21:51, pb), Mike Jeffries 50th (21:54), Eliza Hack 65th (22:49), Laura Kirkham 68th (22:57), Peter Armstrong 108th (24:33), Ian Hepworth 123rd (25:14), Joe Withers 150th (26:44), Ewan Baxter 165th (27:29), Sally Harrison 173rd (27:51, pb), Natalie Wood 221st (31:17, pb). Donna Riddler was 19th overall at Fountains Abbey and first lady (20:09).

Teesdale Athletics Club

JAMES Atkinson travelled to Cumbria to compete in the Haweswater half-marathon, finishing in 1:40:43 for 146th position.

Swaledale Runners

IAN Oldham's form has improved quickly in a short time since joining the club and he broke the 20-minute barrier for the first time at the Darlington Parkrun, finishing 24th of 274 in 19.35.

Stuart Hardcastle and Marian Hunter ran 22.17 and 27.13 respectively.

Four members were at the Northallerton Parkrun, with Ronan Walsh coming tenth in 24.24. Liz Sowter recorded 28.04, Julia Spittle 28.37 and Nicki Walsh 31.33. Andrew Fletcher was first V55 at Fountains Abbey in 19.53 and Niall Cheyne ran the Skipton Parkrun in 23.18.

Jim Coldwell made his annual trip home for the Black Combe fell race (8 miles,3300 feet) in Cumbria. The Combe is the first obstacle facing weather fronts coming in from the Irish Sea and has a reputation for a special kind of thick mist. This year was no different and along with many of the nations best fell runners Jim went off course, losing around ten minutes. He finished 368th in a field of around 500 in 1.57.06.

Jacqueline Keavney and Martin Randall ran in the 14.1-mile hilly Dentdale run. Jacqueline finished as fifth woman and first FV45 in 1.41.27. Martin was closer to her than at the previous week's Haweswater half, finishing in 1.42.45.

The following day, as part of London preparation, Jacqueline ran the similarly hilly Spen 20 mile race on tired legs. In the circumstances she was satisfied to finish as 11th woman and second FV50 in 2.34.51.

Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers

GRAHAM Robinson and Rebecca Burgess took part in the Spen 20 at the weekend, part of their preparation for the London Marathon.

Graham ran 2.45.38 and was first M60, and Rebecca took 2.52.

Trish Radford entered the Dentdale Run, finishing 260th out of a field of 308 in a time of 2.22.12.

At the Northallerton Parkrun, Ken Evitt was 21st in 27.45 and Phillip Craig 22nd in 28.00.

Thirteen ladies were part of the hen party celebrations for the forthcoming marriage of Claire Gillan, at the Fountains Abbey Park Run.

Accompanying her, as well as her sisters, were Bev Davies, Tracy Holden, Sonja van der Westhuisen, Carol Morrison, Sharon Keegan, Nikki Booth, Linda Bamforth, Cath Lumb, Faith Coy, Christine Burn, Helen Ashworth and Hilary Coventry. Claire's carrying of a ball and chain, and fancy dress for all, made this more of a social run than a competitive race. However, a few members did complete the run, with Rob Lickley coming 40th in 21.16, Rob Burn 45th in 21.36, Ian Crane 90th in PB 24.37, Emma Horner 125th in 25.53 and Paul Adams 230th in 30.19.

Bedale and Aiskew Runners

CHRIS Lees and Paul Berry ran last weekend's Barcelona Marathon, the field of nearly 17,000 runners running through the streets of the famous city. The friends ran together to cross the line in a time of 3.39.46 for a top-third finish. This was Chris' second marathon in only a few weeks and his time was a personal best.

Running half the distance, and this time down the A1 at Retford, two Bedale runners took part in the local half-marathon. Andy Gibb completed the race in 1.49.27 for 334th place, with Chris Appleton 342nd in 1-50.18, out of the 672 competitors.

Neil McNish ran the Wiltshire Calne 10K, comin 34th out of 219 in a time of 42.33.

The Darlington parkrun was a scheduled race in the club championship. Richard Woods took maximum points, being the first Bedale runner home in 21.43 for 48th position. Daren Rosamond ran a personal best of 22.09 for 52nd. Helen Shields was first Bedale lady in 23.23 for 80th, with Paul Bainbridge 81st in 23-24, to win the M65 catagory.

Chris Appleton, who ran a half-marathon the next day, finished 95th in 24.03, followed by John Hunter in 142nd and 26-22, and Marian Hunter in 158th in 27-13. Jayne Rosamond recorded a PB 30.09 for 213rd place out of the 274 competitors.

Michelle Saunders ran the Fountains Abbey parkrun to finish 247th in 31.45, out of 315 runners.

The club is hosting the Bedale Sainsbury's Sports Relief Mile events tomorrow at the BASA sports ground. The one-mile starts at 10.45am with the three and six-mile events at 11.30am. You can register on the Sports Relief website or on the day at the sports ground.
