STORM Desmond created havoc across the country last weekend, but relented for Scarborough and District Motor Club's Jacky Baxter Trial on Sunday as Low North Camp was bathed in sunshine.

A good entry of 70 riders joined battle over a three-lap, 12-section course.

Sixteen-year-old Dan Peace blew away his injury-riddled season and the opposition with a superb confidence-boosting win, losing just one mark on his last lap after looking certain to complete a faultless ride.

Younger brother Jack, the youth A winner, finished as his closest rival on 12 penalties. Third-placed Jack Howell was matching the two brothers and pushing hard for the win.

Scarborough riders in the other classes were firing on all cylinders. Alan Carr, belying his age, produced a superb ride to win a hard clubman A class from Colin Bailey. He was the only rider to remain unpenalised on the first hazard.

York's Matt Handley finished third, just one point away from Bailey, and Gary Collinson followed up his expert win at Thirsk the previous week by taking the intermediate laurels week ahead of Mark Taylor.

Zac and Claire Collinson topped the youth B and C classes after mechanical problems forced Callum Williamson and Lewis Fairbanks to retire, and the beginners' route continues to grow, with father and son act Martin and Martyn Pratt topping both routes.

Martin produced a perfect feet-up ride to match clubman B winner Paul Nelson.

Trevor Jones, Stuart Dixon and Nicola Dixon followed Martin Pratt home on one mark lost.

AGAINST overwhelming odds, Jason Dunning and his Bradford Motor Club stalwarts managed to plot a trials course at rain and gale-lashed Skyrakes Farm, north of Skipton, last Saturday.

Dunning proclaimed on the Bradford club’s website that the Eric S Myers Trophy would take place on Sunday, and it did. Not only did it run, but the entry figure was an amazing 74 contenders who rode a 14-section, three-lap course.

The competitors travelled from all parts of Yorkshire, Lancashire and Derbyshire to ride a round of the West Yorkshire Championship series.

Fully aware of the weather conditions, the course-marking team plotted a route below the towering pinnacles overlooking Gargrave and that at least afforded some shelter for the 14 hardy observers.

Before Sunday’s event, centre champion Sam Yeadon was just four championship points ahead of Rawdon’s Sam Beecroft-Penny. Yeadon’s victory won him the title, while his rival finished fifth in the expert ranks.

Barnoldswick engineer Anthony Ayrton grabbed the inter class, while Silsden’s Harry Lampkin created history by riding the first privately-owned Vertigo machine to win the novice class.

RICHMOND Motor Club ended the trials year in style last Saturday evening when the Garden Rooms at Tennants of Leyburn were bursting at the seams as almost 200 guests and award-winners enjoyed a three-course meal.

The evening was a new venture for the club as in recent years the landowners' and farmers' function had taken place as a separate entity, but on Saturday they, with the gamekeepers, enjoyed an evening with competitors and officials.

The Richmond ladies were in full flow with their organisational talents and Chris Wallis produced a montage of the year in pictures of many of the Richmond activities, from trials to training schools.

After the meal, club chairman Nathan Stones welcomed everyone before handing over the function to club president David Peacock. He thanked the landowners, farmers and gamekeepers, stressing that without their co-operation there would be no trials.

Mr Peacock also thanked the Richmond ladies for their hard work throughout the season, with Anne Stones, Chris Wallis, Rhona Peacock, Diane Horner, Ros and Charlotte Brown, Sandra Fowler and Vicky Andrew all presented with a bouquet of flowers.

He added that it had been a privilege in his two-year term of office to be part of the centenary year of the Scott Trial.

The presentation of awards followed, with lady president Rhona Peacock starting the proceedings by presenting Nathan Cannell with the Alice Tye Trophy for services to youth trials this year and ending by presenting the first expert award to James Stones.

See the club's website for all the award-winners.

The top five observers during 2015, Barry Watson, Dave Nesham, Richard Coates, Ken Wallis and Pete Hill, were awarded mementos.

Laurence Allinson, Cogden Hall farmer and host to the annual training school, thanked the club for a fantastic evening and closed by saying that the club would always be welcome on his land.

The table raffle raised £588.76 for the president's charity, the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

THE Bedlington club’s trial at Long Framlington was cancelled owing to the weather conditions in Northumberland last Sunday.
