RICHMOND Motor Club's Richardson Trophy Trial sank under torrential rain 25 days ago, but rose again at Braidley in scenic Coverdale last Saturday in totally dry conditions.

Thanks to the Lambert family, their acres alongside the River Cover served to get the event moving as 54 riders contested the main ten-section course, including some Class D eager beavers. A further ten small-wheelers rode their own sections almost in the river.

Charlie Astwood won Class ED, while a third generation Sunter got the family name to top spot when tiny Ben Sunter won Class E from George Thwaite.

The small wheels sections circled on the meadow, where a few small fallen trees tested the jumpers and wheelie exponents.

The clerk of course did provide three interesting sections in the deep ravine alongside the Kettlewell highway. They included three downhill rocky streams, all featuring flights out of the depths.

The fourth section featured a couple of sharp turns at the bottom of a soggy bank, then a flat-out burst up the steep banking. It appeared that Chloe Richardson was warming up for her Scott Trial adventure as the mountain-climbing trialler rocketed up the climb and touched down two metres after the ends card.

SCARBOROUGH'S Michael Todd, now a student at Scarborough College, enjoyed a relaxing Sunday away from A-level stress to win Scarborough DMC's September trial by one mark from Jack Howell.

Held at Harwood Dale, the trial saw Todd hang on to the one mark advantage gained over Howell after posting best ride of the day on Top Rocks.

Clubman B saw the return of Ian Garbutt to the trials scene. Son of the late Fred, who masterminded the Scarborough Sporting Weekend Two-Day for many years, Ian is making a comeback after retiring from trials well over 20 years ago and posted a very respectable score of just 14 marks lost.

THE Darlington and District Motor Club staged another of its popular all-classes trial at Hudswell on Sunday, when 78 riders contested ten classes. The 15-section course was ridden three times.

Matt Maynard won the intermediate class from Mark Willis, while the best rider on the hard route was top novice Nathan Cannell. Paul Dennis ran away with the green course class.

Skeeby’s Chloe Richardson rode and was placed fifth in the build-up to her Scott Trial ordeal in three weeks time.

LEYBURN joiner Richard Sadler won the national 85th Travers Trophy Trial at Allanheads on Sunday from Welsh champion Iwan Roberts and Faceby’s Guy Kendrew. The trial was a qualifying event in the S3 Parts national championship.
