GUISBOROUGH DMC ran their third club trial at Ajalon House, Fryup, on Saturday night, when Castleton's Mark Raw was sole man in charge of course layout.

There was a good entry of almost 60, with most glad to be away from the annoying blanket football coverage on TV, but the weather proved a bit chill. Yarm's Russ Rooksby grabbed the expert win with a consistent ride over the three-lap, ten-section predominantly rocky course. Dan Ferguson topped a strong inter class, beating Whitby's Mike Noble, who won Clubman A from Alan Williams and Mike Lees. Joe Buckworth edged out Mike Watson, Richard Harrison and Rick Jackson.

And the conducted trial continues to grow, with brother and sister act Connor and Niamh Watson fighting for the win, Connor just doing enough.

JAMES Dabill led the world championship trial after the first of three laps on Saturday at Sokolov, in the Czech Republic.

The Cookridge Vertigo riding contender completed 12 sections just one penalty better than the invincible Toni Bou, Adam Raga and Albert Cabestany. But the Spaniards were consistent and took over as Dabill lost his lead on lap three to take fifth place.

Isle of Wight former ladies champion Becky Cook won the ladies event on Saturday from world and British champion Emma Bristow, who finished second ahead of Sandra Gomez and Doncaster chef Donna Fox. In the World Cup event, Wallsend’s Billy Bolt rode his new Scorpa to second place ahead of Denby Dale 18-year-old Jack Price. Welsh champion Iwan Roberts was placed sixth.

On Sunday, Bou and Raga just ran away with the trial. Cabestany and Dabill slumped to sixth and eighth. Billy Bolt turned in the best Brit result, while Roberts and Price claimed fifth and sixth. In the ladies trial, Bristow topped the rostrum ahead of German contender Ina Wilde, followed by Cook, Gomez and Fox.

THE Newcastle club were back to Ridsdale, in Northumberland, last Sunday, with an entry of 56 riders, for the latest North East Centre Championship round. Michael Phillipson didn't have much trouble with the expert class, with just a couple of dabs against him at the finish, enough to give him a four-mark victory over Jack Biggins, who was followed home by Phil Baxter on 11.

BEDBURN, near Wolsingham, in County Durham, was the venue for the latest Castleside Club trial, where 74 riders took part. The clubman course was a straight fight between Grant Gillender and Eddie Aitkin, who finished in that order, but with just two marks separating them at the finish.

AFTER two hectic weekends of organising major trials, the Richmond club eased the pace to stage an easy trial for clubmen and youths at Gilling West, where Crabtree Farm hosted 106 competitors in eight different classes. Chris Dale excelled with a ten-section, three-lap course.

The low penalty figures bear out the care of the section flagging in all classes. Small wheels expert Ted Harston took charge of seven youngsters. Charlie Astwood will remember the day as he won his class. It was also a big day for Cameron Brunskill, who competed in his very first motorcycle trial on a TY 80 Yamaha. The boy got the bike home with a loss of just 29 marks. A great effort.

The names on the day that struck gold? Alfie Royle won Class DE and managed to beat Callum Fowler and the "dynamic duo", Conrad and Monte Andrew. The Ravensthorpe brothers and Callum Fowler are class acts. Team Watling did the double, with father Steve getting his ancient SWM ahead of Paul Turner, while daughter Beth actually finished eighth overall on the Over 40s course, as well as winning Youth Class A.

IT WAS a case of the morning after the night before for many Blue Bar Trial revellers after a Saturday night of eating, drinking, dancing and collecting at Horsehouse Village Hall.

Dominic Weatherall, whose family own and farm the Blue Bar Trial parc ferme cum campsite, organised the evening with Vicky Avison and boyfriend Will Reynolds. Free camping was included in the Coverdale bash, plus catering by Campbells of Leyburn and Wensleydale Brewery and a disco, courtesy of "Stormin Norman". Dave Suttill, who farms Mount Pleasant at Carlton, was the skilled pint-puller.

It was the third Dom Weatherall fundraising evening and early morning event in aid of the Yorkshire and Northern Air Ambulance funds. A total of £435 was raised. Dominic has promised another social night in Coverdale next year.
